The Great Pumpkin Party - Halloween is here!

Yesterday we hosted a gathering that kicks off the countdown to Halloween with a movable feast, some friends and family, and a riot of funny faces.

For the pumpkin carving with kids, I covered two children’s tables with a Halloween spider disposable table cover, I keep sharp instruments safely organized in buckets and on trays on the table and I provide children with pumpkins (they took their jack-o'-lanterns home at the end of the party). Children were so happy that it didn’t matter as much if they made a mess in our living room with spilled pumpkin flesh and seeds!

Besides we created our own "Scary Halloween Photo Booth” for all my friends to take pictures of themselves in their Halloween costumes. Children had a lot of fun in the photo-booth session, this was hilarious and brilliant!

Play at home

My youngest started preschool in early September. He has had tonsillitis, laryngitis, gastroenteritis, bronchitis, conjunctivitis… almost anything can have -itis at the end! Today is one of these days when Little I. is sick, in fact our whole family is. I really try to keep them home a few days when they get sick so they can get better and give their system a chance to recover. My children love school but they enjoy playing at home, too.

Painting is one of Little S.'s favorite activities. She takes her boxes with crayons and watercolor pens and she draws pictures of wonderful pink houses, pink trees, pink flowers, even pink unicorns… of course, her favorite color is pink! Little I. is more interested in scribbling for fun! He uses chalks and markers on the double sided chalkboard and his marks are random, meaningless. But there is more going on; they both are using their mind and their emotions as they engage in the physical act of drawing.

After a while they amused themselves playing with Schleich animals. My children adore them! Little S. loves the farm animals while Little I. loves the prehistoric and the wild animals.

Schleich is a German brand that children love to collect. The company was founded in 1935 by Frederich Schleich. The company first produce cartoon figures, then added animals to its product line. Known for its realistic horses, domestic and farm animals, wild animals and action figure sets. Schleich offers high-quality plastic animals that are strong, hardy, and inspire the imagination in children.

One must in these “play at home” sessions is the supermarket. Little I. was a client, so he bought fruit and vegetables for the basket, bread, eggs for the egg box, sandwiches, milk, crepes, sausages…(such a play food set!) and Little S. was a supermarket cashier, so she rings up and bags customer purchases.

Before dinner and while I was giving Little S. a bath, Little I. had still time for playing with Tower Alphabet & Numbers. I have always been a fan of Maria Montessori's methodology and I like this kind of sensorial materials which have what is called "control of error". The child starts with the largest cube and puts the second-largest cube on top of it. This continues until all five cubes are stacked on top of each other. The control of error is visual. The child sees the cubes are in the wrong order. The successive dimensions of each cube are such that if the cubes are stacked flush with a corner, the smallest cube may be fit squarely on the ledge of each level.

I love to watch them play. In the words of the American writer Ralph Waldo Emerson "It is a happy talent to know how to play".

Once upon a time: classic fairy tales

Today Little I. has chosen our classic fairy tales:
· Hansel and Gretel (German, Brothers Grimm)
· Wolf and the seven little kids (German, Brothers Grimm)
· Goldilocks and the three bears (British, Robert Southey)
· Jack and the beanstalk (British, Benjamin Tabart)

His favorite book is Hansel and Gretel – I think he loves this book because Little I. believes himself to be Hansel and his sister is Gretel! I love this book collection because there are interactive books - lift the flap, textures, pop-ups, scratch and sniff...many elements on each page!!!

Although Little I. doesn’t know read, I've read these fairy tales so many times that he can tell you the stories.

Today I’ve brought a couple of new titles for his lovely collection “The master cat; or, puss in boots (French, Charles Perrault)” and “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (Arabic, Antoine Galland)”but he doesn’t know it, I love seeing the happy surprise on his little face!

Birthday present: a SPA between vineyards

I celebrated my birthday in the middle of this month and my husband surprised me with a wonderful Sunday morning at the exclusive WINE OIL SPA, with treatments of wine and olive oil, in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa!!

We could enjoy ninety minutes of relaxation and well-being on a tour of hydrotherapy and saunas. We started by the dynamic pool giving way to go different techniques tub: loungers, jets for legs, duckbills, geissers, hydromassage benches at different heights and sink of cold water to the final plunge. We got time to relax in the saunas, a Finnish sauna and a steam room with a deep smell of eucalyptus that we combined with the application of ice rubbing to revitalize the body.

We finished the tour with a chocolate body wrap. This new way of using chocolate to detoxify the body, promises to soothe aching muscles and give skin a luminous glow. Hours after leaving we could still smell the aroma of chocolate. 'Hi, my name is Domaine, and I am a Chocoholic'

The spa itself was a beautiful, tranquil space. We felt instantly relaxed .We had an amazing experience, what a wonderful day at the spa!!!

Once upon a time: guess how much i love you

I love reading books. Truth be told, I have always been a reader for as long as I can remember. At first, reading was the perfect excuse to avoid going to sleep but I fell without realizing it. My parent introduced me to my love as they encouraged me to start reading books by bringing home a different book for me every week. I’m really grateful for allowing me the privilege of discovering so different worlds and living so many lives so I want let my children do the same.

I'd like to introduce a new section on my blog that is “Once upon a time” through which I will show you my favorite children's books with my 5 years old daughter (Little S.) and my 3 years old son (Little I.) expert
advice!

Today, Little I. has chosen “Guess How Much I Love You”, written by Sam McBratney and illustrated by Anita Jeram. The story of Little and Big Nutbrown. Little Nutbrown Hare wants very much to impress Big Nutbrown Hare with the enormous scale of his devotion, but ends up being the one who's impressed. We’ve got a pop-up edition in miniature.

Guess How Much I Love You

A sweet story what perfectly expresses the parent’s love. I enjoy reading it every night before my children go to bed.

The painted city - Mural Itinerary for Vitoria-Gasteiz

Definitely a different way to see the city! We visited Vitoria-Gasteiz with some friends and we discovered a painted city. The objective is to produce public works of art by bringing together professional artists and people from all walks of life. Based on a highly participative structure, murals are created on the facades of buildings, starting in the medieval quarter of Vitoria-Gasteiz and extending into new neighborhoods over time. The result is a street-level gallery where process and product share equal value.

Each mural has its own story, its meaning and its secrets. Each one was painted in workshop settings with collaboration from artists and non artists alike, neighbors and citizens of all ages, professions, nationalities, etc.

We admired these murals for hours, and I took one hundred pictures of them! Little S. and Little I. came back home delighted with this street level gallery in the heart of the city! Love you, Vitoria-Gasteiz!
